EVENTS & WEEKENDERS

Quality Music Breaks

WINTERTON OCT 2008

Cracking weekend - loads of great music and fun. Everyone joined in & made the effort to have a good time.

FRIDAY    AMERICAN SPIRIT The two Daves gave us a very good, across the board selection of new and not so new material. Delivered with a smile, and smartly dressed - the guys did themselves no harm at all !

SATURDAY LUNCHTIME  ED COX   Doing his 'West End +' show, Ed was inundated with a heavy cold, but got through all his songs in fine style. Well done old bean !

SATURDAY     THRILLBILLIES on Saturday night. Usual fun time stuff, but we did throw in some partytime favourites later on, so the jiggers could boogie on down. !   Good fun  !!!

Saturday was fancy dress night too, so check out the piccies as they are put on site.

SUNDAY LUNCHTIME    BOB KEELEY. Bob is 'Mr Laid Back', but not onstage. He gave us a glorious lunchtime of classic country, line dance and a smattering of 50s/60s epics which had the crowd drooling with delight. You're welcome anytime Bob !!!

SUNDAY NIGHT   ALAN (Allergy) GREGORY. He has to be the daftest character on our scene, and was into his stride in double quick time! Bang up to date too - our customers loved him. He also invited Thrillbillies up for the last bit to round off the weekend  in Royal fashion.

THRU THE WEEKEND   TEL & LISA

As usual the ubiquitous Tel Fisher emulated his idol 'Tony Blackburn' and DJ'd his way to stardom, while Lisa Fisher danced and taught like a woman possessed ! (by what I don't know!).  A terrific job with loadsa personality injected too !

BLACKPOOL MAY 2008

Mercy mercy!  Loadsa fun and terrific music all the way at the Carousel in May.

FRIDAY    Texas Tornados won themselves a lot of new fans. An excellent mixture of new and old - all country (except 1).  Fantastic musicianship from Scott on keyboards and Roger on guitar, great entertainment from the irrepressible Pete Stothard ! Top Class !!

SATURDAY LUNCHTIME  Ed Cox   Doing his 'West End +' show, Ed was far better rehearsed and prepared this time, and it showed in a very popular musical interlude for approx. 45mins on Saturday lunchtime.

SATURDAY     Thrillbillies on Saturday night. We did an 1 hour spot, then we had our party game (crazy again), a fairly sizeable raffle, and went back on to do another hour - but ended up doing an hour and 45mins. Why? 'Cos we were having a really good time ! Smashing night !

SUNDAY LUNCHTIME    Alan (Allergy) Gregory. We told those who hadn't seen him that Alan has a faulty gene, and was rendered completely daft at birth! Now they believe me. He did a brilliant show, keeping the dancers happy, but entertaining everyone throughout his show.

Saturday was fancy dress night too, so check out the piccies as they are put on site.

BLACKPOOL MAY 2007

Wow! What a great weekend !

We had a fantastic weekend at the Carousel Hotel in Blackpool in May. Lots of great music, great dancing, great teaching, and most of all - LOTS OF FUN !!!

All of our guests commented of the superb quality of their rooms and the function room (exclusive use to THRILLENIUM for the weekend). In fact the only constructive criticism was that the food was a bit 'posh' for one od two of our guests. The food was top rate, but the hotel will put on some standard 'good old British grub' for future events.

DJ and teaching duties were majestically performed by Mel & Lisa, who gathered many compliments on their performance.

THRILLBILLIES did what they generally do, played a mixture of music for all varieties of dancing + a few for the listeners too - while adding their own brand of mayhem to the proceedings!

The new VEGAS line up were excellent, and very well received! Very up to date, very musical, very funny and very country, the guys made a lot of new friends here this weekend.

ED COX, by popular request, did a 30 minute spot of show songs, culminating in an excellent rendition of 'Any dream will do'. Good stuff from Mr Smooth himself!

FOOLS GOLD lived up to their reputation admirably, being bang up to date to the line dancers joy, but displaying superb songwriting skills in presenting some of their own tunes in with tried and trusted favourites.

BLACKPOOL APRIL 2008

Just finished our 2nd weekender at the Carousel hotel, Blackpool - and it was super !

The hotel is immaculate, and the staff very efficient and helpful. We did have a 'sticky' dance floor on night one , but got it sorted for the rest of the weekend.

Our acts did the biz as we knew they would:

Friday   Twas us! THE THRILLBILLIES ! we had a really good rapport going, and our dance floor was very well used. People settled in to 'their seats', got good music from Mel & Lisa, and generally chilled out and danced their socks off.

Saturday.    FOOLS GOLD    Paul & Debbie gave us two excellent sets of dance-friendly, up to date music. Good sound, smartly dressed, well humoured and tune ful - well until they invited Thrillbillies up for 20 minutes of jamming!

Sunday.  Our Sunday lunch spot was taken by PAUL MARTIN  - not known by too many until today, he was excellent! A big, rich voice ideally suited to Josh Turner, Trace Atkins style of material - Paul endeared himself to a lot of new fans today. This guy will be a big hit on our circuit - no doubt !

We had our usual Irish Bingo, party games and dressing up night, and generally had a rip-roaring time, with lots of our guests vowing to re-book for next time !

OVERALL

Overall the weekend was a stunning success for our first hotel venture. Two more are already planned for 2008 (see the pages elsewhere on the site).

The staff were helpful and friendly at all times, and we look forward to meeting them again.

To see some of the musical events, go to www.youtube.com . Type in the search box  THRILLENIUM, and you can view a selection of videos of the acts on during the weekend.

WINTERTON NOVEMBER 2007

Boy Oh Boy!    What a great weekend.

We were a bit more experienced and organised this time, but the fun element was just as insans!

Once again Mel & Tel were at the hub of the DJ/Dance wheel, and kept it spinning non-stop for the weekend.

TO THE MUSIC

NASHVILLE SOUNDS had a 'dep' bass player, but such was their quality that only regular fans would have known. Their Friday night was a display of musical excellence, coupled with super entertainment from start to finish. Congratulations to a five piece all live band for not blasting everyone with excessive volume.

THRILLBILLIES did what they always try to do - keep everyone guessing as to what they wil play. Loadsa fun again and a few new songs. Good to hear people singing along with some old favourites, and good to see all forms of dancing (except lap & pole) being done during the evening.

TEXAS TORNADOS were superb! Peewee Pete has always been known for his immense enthusiasm for country music, and now definitely has the personnel to carry the band to the next level. Scott & Roger have gelled straight away to enable Pete to entertain as he was born to do.

ED COX was joined on his now traditional afternoon jaunt into West End, George Michael and 'anything else he wants to have a go at'  by our friend and excellent bass player Paul (Gunny) Gunn. This exemplifies our musical attitude of 'if it feels good, do it!', and was well received by a large Saturday afternoon audience.
